The Bank of New York to be a Flagship Sponsor of Breast Cancer Walk for Second Year
NEW YORK, September 14, 2006 -- The Bank of New York announced today that for the second year, it will be a Flagship Sponsor of the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event to take place on Sunday, October 15, 2006, in Central Park, New York City. The Bank of New York’s commitment to and participation in Making Strides is part of its long tradition of making a positive difference in the communities it serves. In its first year as a Flagship Sponsor, its corporate donation underscored the Company’s commitment to the cause, and Bank employees raised over $100,000.
Joan Khoury, managing director and head of the Bank’s philanthropic activities, said, “We are committed to being an active and responsible member of the communities where we do business, which entails investing time and resources where they are needed most. The Making Strides event is critical to helping fund the American Cancer Society’s progress through research, education, advocacy, and patient services, and the Bank is pleased to once again play a role in making this great event a success.”
The funds from the walk ensure that patients, survivors and their families will continue to benefit from the Society’s critical programs. In 2005, more than 400,000 participants in 100 cities across the country joined the American Cancer Society to raise more than $34 million.
