The Bank of New York Company, Inc. Announces Fourth Quarter 2005 Earnings Release Date, Conference Call and Webcast

NEW YORK, January 4, 2006 - The Bank of New York Company, Inc. will release its fourth quarter 2005 earnings results on Wednesday, January 18, 2006, before trading begins on the New York Stock Exchange. The earnings release will also be available on the Company’s website at www.bankofny.com/earnings.

Thomas A. Renyi, chairman and chief executive officer, and Bruce W. Van Saun, vice chairman and chief financial officer, will review the quarterly results in a live conference call and audio webcast on January 18, 2006, at 10:30 a.m. ET.
